Empowering patients pre-op and post-op

Tackling the Covid-19 backlog of elective care
NHS England have set the following ambitions in their delivery plan

  • Increase the capacity of the health service
  • Transform the way elective care is provided, using digital tools and streamlined care
  • Provide personalised, accessible information and support to improve outcomes and reducing inequalities.

Our digital therapeutics offers a solution to each of these ambitions meaning clinicians can increase their capacity for care, helping more patients than conventional healthcare delivery models.

my mhealth are the UK’s leading supplier of evidence based digital therapeutics. We help NHS Providers transform their services and improve the outcomes of patients with long-term conditions using digital technologies. The platform covers 70% of long-term conditions including COPD, COVID 19, heart disease, asthma and diabetes. Couple this with our prehabilitation product for patients undergoing elective surgery, you can see how rapidly we can realise service efficiencies across the entire patient pathway.

Please see the attached pdf “digital hub” to find out more about our apps.

Our platform benefits range from education and condition-specific interventions to rehabilitation, providing round the clock access to proven digital interventions. Empowering patients, irrespective of physical conditions, IT literacy or socio-economic status, making sure everyone has access they need. We also work with local teams to facilitate digital inclusion.

Our apps feed into an integrated clinical system, accessible by all levels of healthcare. Forming a co-scripted medical record, all symptoms, treatments, care plans, targets and metrics are seamlessly collected/transmitted, reducing unwarranted variations in care.

Supporting patients pre-op and post-op

Up to 30% of patients develop some form of postoperative complication. Complications cause significant impact across the whole patient pathways:

  • Patient: Longer hospital stays, poor functional outcomes, lifelong morbidity
  • Clinicians: Stress/pressure, outcome data
  • Providers/payers: Increased costs, reduced efficiency, healthcare utilisation

Effective prehabilitation before cardiac surgery can play a key part in elective recovery. With myOp (built in partnership with the University Hospital Southampton) and myHeart, patients undergoing cardiac intervention are supported from decision to operate to full recovery.

Find out how myOp can be used in the pre-operative period and myHeart in the post-operative period: https://mymhealth-r02g170b212-media.s3.eu-west-2.amazonaws.com/myOp_and_myHeart_eBook+.pdf

Combining personalised self-management tools, risk factor optimisation, cardiac rehabilitation programmes, with behavioural change techniques, our award-winning apps can reduce complications, improve outcomes and decrease costs.

REDUCE COMPLICATIONS: Optimising nutrition, physical fitness and psychological preparedness has been shown to improve outcomes and reduce complication rates. Evidence shows prehab can reduce complications such as chest infections by up to 50%.

IMPROVE EFFICIENCY: Engaging and empowering patients pre-op can lead to reduced DNAs and readmissions

DECREASE LENGTH OF STAY: Depending on type of surgery studies have shown that prehab can reduce LoS by anywhere from 1 to 6 days.

We are featured in the NHSx digital perioperative playbook: https://www.nhsx.nhs.uk/key-tools-and-info/digital-playbooks/perioperative-digital-playbook/using-a-digital-prehabilitation-tool-to-support-patients-preparing-for-surgery/

myOp is now available FREE of charge for the first 6 months to NHS providers (terms and conditions apply). If you would like to find out more about myOp, please see the attached pdf or join us for an introduction to myOp (short presentation, product demo, Q&A) https://forms.zohopublic.com/matthewduggan/form/myOPFOCIntrosessions/formperma/2zx2KKfkEMMSrgB08i_M-va87NKTYq9PxIFYkyDf5a4?utm_source=SocialMedia&utm_medium=LinkedIn&utm_content=myOP_dropin

Brilliant, thank you for contributing to the #SolvingTogether platform!

Cathy Sloan Apr 12, 2022

Thanks for the contribution. You mention that some of the features were developed with University Hospital Southampton, has the solution been implemented anywhere else?

Hi Cathy, thank you for your comment.

As part of the digital health partnership award my mhealth have partnered with North Bristol NHS Trust, University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS), Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and University Hospital of North Midlands NHS Trust to secure funding from NHSX that will enable the adoption of myOp, an app that supports the prehabilitation of patients prior to elective surgery, and myCOPD, a digital therapeutic for patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD).

Currently the University Hospital Southampton are implementing and evaluating the use of myOp in multiple patient pathways. Although evidence is being collated by UHS we’ve carefully selected the most effective, evidence based interventions and combined them with proven behavioural change techniques to produce myOp. myOp is also aligned to the latest guidance on preoperative assessment and optimisation from the Royal College of Surgeons, Royal College of Anaesthetists and other organisations.

Although myOp is a novel product, there is a strong and growing evidence base behind the wider my mhealth platform which demonstrates the safety, impact and effectiveness in both trial and real-world settings. Key findings include those from the Rescue study, which showed statistically significant reductions in readmissions to hospital due to improved self-management, and The Trooper study, which demonstrated that completing an online exercise program on the my mhealth platform was able to deliver equivalent outcomes to face-to-face delivery.

These studies and subsequent real-world evaluations and case studies have consistently demonstrated the feasibility and effectiveness of delivering exercise interventions such as cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation via the my mhealth platform. Patients using this digitally enhanced rehabilitation approach have been shown to achieve comparable clinical and functional outcomes to those seen with conventional delivery.

Take a look at our peer-reviewed studies and real-world evidence to understand the effectiveness of my mhealth digital therapeutics https://mymhealth.com/studies

Please do feel free to reach out if you have any more questions about myOp or the my mhealth platform, we would be happy to arrange a call. Thank you.
