Get to the finish on time

It's very satisfying to finish a list on time and to have done all the operating that was planned.  It would be great to bring together everyone's top tips on how to do it.  Mine are:

1) It starts with the planning.  Be as consistent as possible and avoid late changes so everyone can be prepared and be realistic.

2) Brief the team on the unusual in advance.

3) Be ready to start on time.

4) Participate in transitions between cases. It's amazing how much time can be saved and how you really get to know the team.

It's also important to include "outsiders" in these team briefings, for example Radiographers, so that there are no further hold-ups and effective team working can be achieved. The radiographer can then also plan their workload and prepare effectively each for case, which will aid smooth operational flow in a theatre.
