Recognise, celebrate and develop theatre support workers

Support workers are important team members across NHS services,  and attracting, valuing, celebrating, retaining and developing theatre support workers is a crucial area of developing outstanding theatre teams, including:

  • entry routes into the NHS that attract new people
  • CPD opportunities at all stages
  • consistency of scope of practice across an organisation, integrated care system (ICS) and beyond
  • clear and flexibile progression routes - such as assistant theatre pracitioner or nursing associate roles, and routes into nursing and ODP that take account of existing education and experience
  • better use of exisiting level 3 and level 5 apprenticeships (and functional skills development)
  • career coaching conversations that support personalised development
  • use of existing relevant guidance and career frameworks.

Thanks Naomi. This is such an important area to ensure that whichever role people start their careers in, there are clear and attractive career pathways for them to develop their skills and progress in their careers, including 'cross over' points which do not assume that people will stay in the same professional group during their career. It is also so important there there is respect for every team member in theatres, and for what they each contribute.

Great idea Naomi. Let's invest in our staff, develop and retain them.
