111 to be able to prescribe.

111 should be able to prescribe if the patient had prescription before and basic pain killers to stop the escalation of the patients need for a hospital visit, someone shouldn't be critical before treated. The aim should be to keep people who are long term sick at home when they know the symptoms are what they are diagnosed with, A&E is not the place to support chronically sick people.

This is an interesting idea. Given that the medication would need to still collected from a pharmacy would it be better that the patient was offered an appointment with a Pharmacist who could then ensure that the most appropriate medication was prescribed rather than just repeating? To do this the services would just need to make slots available to 111 and DOS entries be up to date?

I agree that this idea has merit. Perhaps it would be good to have a pharmacy team on 111 that a caller could be transferred to if the call required a judgement on medication.

As to the issue of collecting from a pharmacy once a prescription was fulfilled that is something that could be arranged by the patient. Getting the medication prescribed is the hardest part of that process and while collection may prove to be challenging for some that is much less of an barrier to overcome by comparison. If having this route available for providing a prescription would help reduce A&E pressure, as clearly appears to be @InvisibleSophia's experience, then this is absolutely something that should be explored.

I think incorporating pharmacists into 111 is a good idea for the reasons above, I wonder why we can have a delivery service for patients needing urgent medication, Amazon can do same or next day delivery and hooking into such a service could provide even more benefits to patients and other OOH services who would otherwise have to deal with an escalation. Just a thought...

Having no option than to go to A&E is an issue for so many things, and could be avoided via alternatives such as you describe, Sophia. Thank you for sharing your idea.

Hi Sophia, This is such a great idea, could you please post it on to the UEC crowdsourcing, I really think this is something which can be prototyped and tested quickly and would love to see this idea included into the UEC work which closes on 19Th Aug.
