#SolvingTogether Launch session ideas

On the 4th April 13:00-14:00 Tim Ferris, Director of Transformation at NHS England and NHS Improvement. During the session the audience were split into breakout groups and focused on a challenge. Each challenge has two rooms focusing on it.

Here are some of the ideas that the audience came up with during the session.

Room 1:

  • Data - where is the value of doing this? You can look at the numbers all day, but that won’t change the situation. It is more about how can we resolve the issues and the so what now?
  • The gap in improvement has been around actually understanding the process. What is stopping people from putting their toes in the water?
  • We need to ensure that we problem solve together and co-produce on this - looking at all the domains of quality not forgetting experience
  • Find out what has worked and why it has worked, what are the key elements for success from the bottom up not from a prescribed top down approach
  • Reword challenge so that it is about boosting capacity and improving people’s experience of waiting for elective care

Room 1 - Top 3 ideas
1) Focus on the people - people need time to make the change

2) Use data to spot opportunities

3) Co-production at every level

Room 2:

  • Approach to look at journey as a whole
  • Expand capacity transparency outside the NHS
  • Management of similar symptom groups
  • Go beyond diagnostics
  • Understanding patient pathways
  • Whole system view
  • Use tech to align transport to patient journey
  • Planning for discharge model?
  • Understand patient journey and actively involve patients and family
  • Look at the bigger picture right from the start- comorbidities, where is patient going on discharge, what are their social care needs etc

Room 2 - Top 3 ideas

1) Create an environment that allows all professionals to have visibility of the whole patient journey at all times

2) Understand what is out there- voluntary org, charity, community offers etc- understand what is there and utilise them for patients

3) Understand what patients are waiting for across all pathways- can we bulk surgeries together? Can we prioritise surgeries ie cardiac first then come back for knee replacement?

Is your idea a commercial offer , or does it have the potential to be a commercial offer?

No

Which part of the pathway does your idea focus on?

All parts of the pathway
