I want to be a paediatrician

Awareness
Equitable access

Paediatrics is the word that comes to mind when I think of NHS careers.

I've considered a career in the NHS because when I was younger, I used to watch children's hospital tv shows. They encouraged me from a young age. I also would like to help other children who have been in a similar medical situation to me.

What inspired me is I wanted to help children and teenagers. And give back to the profession that helped me. I want to be a paediatrician.

The barriers for me are the amount of qualifications and years it takes to be a health care professional.

I think children's programmes, Workshops Interests help influence young people's career choices.

Some things the NHS could do to attract young people to the more than 350 NHS careers include promoting in schools, colleges and universities. Another could be the advantages and the people you help. Videos on different careers. Career swaps. Sharing career choices.

This idea was shared during a meeting of the Youth Advisory Group on 11 September.
